The recent training session for volunteers held by Thirsk Community Care was an opportunity to exchange stories as well as to learn more about what support and guidance is provided for volunteers. “I met a great group of people,” said Christine Knights, the recently appointed Chief Officer. “There was a mixture of people from different parts of the country, men and women, and a wide age range.”

Bill Sutherland, who has been volunteering for just a few months, is enjoying himself in his new role. He enjoys having a chat with people and just that hour or so of company makes all the difference. “I’ve worked all my life as a manager and have enormous respect for elderly people,” explained Bill. “I enjoy listening to their stories and picking up a bit of shopping for them.” Thirsk Community Care and Thirsk Volunteer Centre provide a variety of opportunities to suit everyone.

More men willing to volunteer are particularly needed. Contact: Sal Billany or Gill Burn on 01845 523115
